The Two Tongues Podcast explores the most interesting topics that aren't "fit" for popular consumption (or polite dinner conversation). Here you will find honest, unfiltered and unedited conversation between two life-long friends on the state of the world as we see it; politics, religion, mind-altering substances, psychology and philosophy are fair game. Let the fun begin!

S2E88 - Footnotes2Plato
Wednesday Jan 11, 2023
Wednesday Jan 11, 2023
In this episode Chris describes his introduction on Twitter to Dr. Matt Segall through a series of tweets about the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead. Dr. Segall is a Whitehead expert and professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He has appeared on many podcasts, has authored several books and published many lectures; all can be accessed from his website: www.footnotes2plato.com
This episode focuses on a lecture he co-hosted alongside Dr. Robert McDermott on the subject of Rudolph Steiner--a man the Two Tongues Podcast audience is familiar with. We examine Steiner from the prospective of Plato, Whitehead as well as ancient Indian philosophy.

S2E87 - Existing Within - Time and Whitehead’s Environment
Sunday Jan 08, 2023
Sunday Jan 08, 2023
In this episode Chris give's Whitehead the business. He calls out what he perceives as obvious internal contradictions in Whitehead's metaphysics, his attempt to provide evidence for his model by over-explaining its internal mechanics and his arbitrary criticism of "Idealism" while simultaneously speaking like an Idealist. It's not critique, however, there's some good stuff too. We talk about space, time and environment as conceived in Whitehead's "Process" vision and we talk about "form" in a refreshingly Platonic way.

S2E86 - Chaos and Order Whitehead-style
Wednesday Jan 04, 2023
Wednesday Jan 04, 2023
This was my favorite reading in Process and Reality to-date...hands down. Whitehead gets into the weeds on some of his most interesting concepts: God, the Creative Advance, Concresence and Satisfaction. He also introduces the idea of Mind, which muddies the waters up something awful. I take aim at some of the inconsistencies in his model, but make a great deal of headway in understanding how he sees 'God' and what it means to be 'real.'

S2E85 - Judaism, Magic and the Bible
Sunday Jan 01, 2023
Sunday Jan 01, 2023
In this episode Kyle and Chris discuss the Russia-Ukraine war. Who's the "good guy," what's the end game and why is the U.S. so invested in the outcome. This leads to some comparisons with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and some questionable recounting of that history. Soon we're talking about codes in the Bible and whether or not the composition of the Bible can be said to be divinely inspired. Chris suggests hocking the whole thing apart from the beginning of Genesis and the Gospel of John and Kyle reacts.

In this episode we welcome back the great Daniel Torridon of the Onion Unlimited podcast to talk about his recent, let's call it...life adventure. Daniel developed a romantic relationship with a woman who lives on the other side of the globe. Despite the distance and against all the odds he took the leap to travel to see her. They already knew each other intimately, albeit virtually, but the stars aligned! Daniel is now in the process of selling all his things and permanently relocated to live in Queensland with his twin flame. Let's hear that story.

S2E83 - The Fable of Substance, Motion and Space-Time
Tuesday Dec 20, 2022
Tuesday Dec 20, 2022
In this episode Chris gets back into Alfred North Whitehead's "Process and Reality." We talk about our fundamental assumptions and intuitions of reality (such things as substance, extension, time, etc.) and explore how these things fit into Whitehead's process cosmology. This gets us into an conversation about God and a few minor disagreements with the great man.

S2E82 - Gender = Gonads
Sunday Dec 11, 2022
Sunday Dec 11, 2022
This turned out to be a spicy episode. Kyle and Chris discuss Elon Musk as a modern-day Ayn-Randian hero. We discuss Chris' participation in a research project at the University of Exeter on transformative psychedelic experience. But that's not all. We talk about IQ research and all the controversy that goes along with that. We talk effort versus genetic inheritance, the difficulty in understanding philosophic and academic language, the wild west and the idea of "community." Come and get it while it's hot!

S2E81 - Horse Meat
Sunday Dec 04, 2022
Sunday Dec 04, 2022
This one is the Thanksgiving plague episode where Chris recounts his vicious bout of flu, but also reviews all the great television he watched while recovering. We touch on Ye, the weird, socially-enforced censorship of history and discuss the advantages of developing community in a way that puts the power, creativity and direction in the hands of its members (and not Papa Government).

S2E80 - Testosterone and Doubt
Sunday Nov 27, 2022
Sunday Nov 27, 2022
In this episode Chris and Kyle get back together after 2 weeks off. We talk about the possibilities of the 2024 presidential election in the U.S. and about the dark realities of a social credit system. He discuss the value of church, of traditional preaching and of human motivation and manipulation. We ask whether spiritual/psychological "maturity" is a matter of will power or if it boils down to hormone levels.

S2E79 - What the Hell is an Actual Entity
Wednesday Nov 16, 2022
Wednesday Nov 16, 2022
In this episode Chris highlights his beef (so far, anyway) with Alfred North Whitehead's model of reality--Philosophy of Organism. He poses the questions that beg for an answer and highlights where Whitehead fails to be clear. Just what the hell is an "Actual Entity"...or an "Eternal Object" for that matter? Whitehead tells us that experience arises from "primary data" and that "a thing" mediates between Potentiality and Actuality. He then waits pages and pages to clarify, with mixed success. I may be taking issue more with his writing style than with the substance of his metaphysics. Listen and let me know if I'm being naive, if I'm missing something, or if my criticisms are valid.
